Easter weekend (2002) found Filer entertaining the masses in Christchurch, and in Greymouth on the West Coast.

The Thursday night at the Dux simply rocked, the lads had fun and played a super tight set. Filer are leaping from strength to strength in their live performance, and that night was proof positive. What more can be said, the crowd wanted an encore again, so Filer pulled out an old favourite, 'Led' a song that hasn't been included in recent outings. Is there a favourite song out of the set for the faithful fans, it would seem no. The newer songs like 'DBE' and 'James' sit fine when played against old favourites like 'Cisco' and 'Dolls House', in fact D.J. Ghalal couldn't hear anything but the crowd singing along during 'Cisco'. Thanks to the Dux and all you faithful Filettes.

Thanks to Mel (from the Package) for the great Photos of the gig that night (check out the Gallery). Check out the review in the Package of Thursdays Dux Gig.

Friday was an early start with a trip through the Alps to the West Coast, and to a fantastic venue called D.P.1 (www.dpone.co.nz). Filer want to thank Zane for the hospitality, check out their web site, and if your in Greymouth, check it out, have a Latte, and get stuck into some White Water Rafting with Zane and the crew.

As always when a band travels away, you take some mates, so thanks to Lee, Danielle, Charlotte, and Kelly, who stopped the band from killing each other.

Surprise, surprise, it was raining when we got there, did it matter, not on the Coast. DP:1 was virtually empty until the moment the band took the stage. It's like the locals new when they needed to be there. Again, Filer rocked, the only real potential problem was when Dave told the audience "Your water tastes like shit", luckily they took it in the good humour that it was meant. It was great to get away and play somewhere else for the band, it was certainly worth the trip, and they can't wait to go there again.

Special thanks goes to our hosts, Debbie and Angela. Thanks for looking after us ladies and giving us a place to stay. We hope we didn't scare you.

Thanks also to Tony for the fantastic rig and sound for the night!!! Again, thanks to Zane, your whare rocks bro!!!

You can catch Filer again on the 20th of April, and again in late May, keep an eye on the Dux gig guide for other great ChCh rock as well (www.thedux.co.nz).

Special mention goes to Aaron, Filer's drummer, we have finally found a foldback system that works, so if you thought Aaron was good before, he's just plain unstoppable now.

And lastly, there are some new song being worked on by the Boys (Yep, Mikes at it again, WHERE WILL HE TAKE US!!) PEACE OUT

24th November 01- FILER live

Firstly, Filer would like to congradulate fellow Failsafe Records signing "degreesK" for securing the coveted New Years Eve gig at the Dux De Lux. This is in support of another great Christchurch act, "Slim".

Filer have recently turned to promotional merchandise, (T-shirts, caps etc..) which will be on sale at their gigs and on this website at a later date.

Filer have come to the conclusion that their live performance is their main trump card and are planning to play this card as often as possible around the island, with negotiations underway for performances in Nelson with "Mother Guru" and in Greymouth with support from Christchurch Trance and Hard House D.J., "Odyssey".

Filer's DJ opened with his band Jumanta which consisted of series of heavy grooves and speed metal tracks with scratching provided by Ghalal as well the odd soulful lyric. It turned into a simple case of 'musical instruments', every band member apart from the drummer had a turn on almost every instrument.

This was the 3rd gig for Filer since their return to the Christchurch music seen, and it has sealed a great year for them. Filer looked relaxed and ready to enjoy themselves, which was started by Mike introducing the band as 'Korn', after a couple of the old 'Technical Glitches' that every band faces, Filer launched into their typically strong performance. Of note were two new appearances on the song list, the songs 'James' and D.B.E. both recieved an enthusiastic response from the crowd, D.B.E. bringing 'bounce' to the crowd. Both songs are similar to the old crowd favourite 'Probe Droid'.

The pure rock of the song 'Got to Get it' was met by the exuberant response "THAT SONG ROCKS!!!" from a member of the audience. This could be clearly heard throughout the venue. The set was finished with what has to be one of the bands strongest songs, '01'. This song is often percieved as a short song, but is as long as many other songs in the Filer set, the fact is, it leaves the crowd wanting more. And more they did want, with cries of "More" and "Encore", Filer happily performed 'Probe Droid' a second time to finish the evening.

The band felt that this was their best gig so far, and are looking forward to performing to their faithful supporters again soon.

A special thanks to: Electro tech for the lighting rig. Rob for Engineering and to you for coming along and damaging your hearing.

A documentary is in the pipeline for early in the new year which will include all local bands from around the Christchurch area. Filming will be done at the Dux De Lux, and hopefully aired on National Television later in the year So support Christchurch music and the Dux De Lux, because you never know, you might be on TV......And where else can you go and get great beer and see great bands for FREE?

THE GIG 08/09/01

Thanks to all those who attended the Dux on saturday night in support of local music.
After a hard 2 months trying to organize sponsorship, we were able to get some help from Echo records who are now the major stockists of the EP, 'Device'.

Prior to the gig, we thought that Mike had done a runner as the other members of the band and audience waited anxiously. It turned out he had a headache and was at the bar getting some water and a disprin. Once on stage Mike was able to shrug off his ailment and put 110% into his performance which was well supported by the crowd.

Our Bass player, Dave who had played the last gig completely sober more than made up for his lack of alcohol by downing our entire bar tab before the end of the gig. His performance though was second to none, taking on the Keith Richards role in the band has worked out well. No matter how much Alcohol he puts away he can still play as tight as a studio musician.

Ghalal Brazeel took up the role of our new DJ straight after the exit of our last DJ and has taken up the challenge with gusto. Ghalal has also been labelled the democrat of the band, simmering any arguments with possitive thinking. Saturday, he was unleashed off stage, Preferring to stay off stage for fear of his needles jumping was a good idea beacause even the drums were shaking with the jumping of Dave and Mike.
Every response was possitive when talking about Ghalal and his performance, even his sorting of his records was commented on.

The next gig will be on Saturday November 24th at of course, The Dux De Lux.

Stay tuned for a new series in documentaries which looks at FILER's struggle to make it. Starting on the 20th of Semptember.

Filer at the Dux Delux 22nd June 2001

The Cooltones opened the evening with a satirical rock performance embracing the possible popstars of the future, namely Darius from the TV hit series 'POPSTARS' in a hilarious gameshow style.
Filer's new Dj, Napalm played while Filer set up. Unfortunately his levels were far too loud and caused his music to distort.
After a short time, Filer mounted the stage. They started with their usual drum n' bass number which precluded the beginning of their rock onslaught. It took until half way through their set until people warmed to the 100+ decibel noise, but filer weren't without their problems. Michael's microphone cut out on him and Dave had to restrict his typical stage dancing due to Napalm's decks skipping right behind him. Besides the setbacks Filer went on to satisfy the hungry crowd and were even asked to do an encore.
Overall a good gig for Filer's return after 2 years out of the scene, and since then Napalm has been dropped and a new DJ has been added. Also Filer are looking to tour Nelson and Wellinton possibly in spring. Fingers crossed
